Native Hawaiian Kupuna Healthcare: from Pre Contact to Present Day
Our group wishes to present a story of how Hawaiian health issues today are primarily symptoms of systemic oppression and marginalization imposed since the late 1700s post Cook. The history of the land tells a history of its people as Hawaiian health is tied to the health of the aina. Our focus is on how the stripping of land as well as culture practices and resources has negatively impacted the health of Native Hawaiians. We are also specifically addressing the importance of Native Hawaiian kupuna healthcare with a growing elderly population in Hawai'i.
